Book Discussion Group

This summer I'm attending a book discussion group at Irving Bible Church's, through their Tapestry  ministry. http://tapestryministry.org/    Tapestry is a ministry that focuses on serving families as they travel the adoption and foster care journey.

The name of the book we're discussing is the Connected Child by Karyn Purvis and David Cross.   For me this book is/was a page turner, I seriously couldn't put it down from the moment I started reading it.  Believe me when I say I'm not a "big" reader, and I surely don't underline/highlight pages unless something really JUMPS out at me.

But, with this book I was underlining/highlighting like crazy and saying to husband, "Oh wait, I've got to read this to you", or "wait, you've got to read this".  I'm telling you, it's great!

I really do believe this book is a must read for anyone, no matter if your adopting, thinking about adopting or if all your children are biologically yours.  It's just that good.  From those that I've talked to that have also read this book feel exactly the same way.

Another good book is supposed to be.... Anatomy of the Soul by Curt Thompson, but this one is a harder read.  It's next on my list.  I'll let you know what I think.

Summer Vacation

I can't believe it's been over a month since my last post. I promise to all those who are reading that I'll try to be more consistent.

We started off our summer with an early V A C A T I O N !!!!

Fred and I decided we should stay close to home this year since we're "waiting" to hear about a birthmom (adoption), so we went to Pensacola, FL and it was wonderful. It was sunny and very warm. We had no itinerary, I did zero cooking, we chilled on the beach and explored everything. There's definitly a reason why it's called Vacation. Unfortunately, we had to come home. :-(

Felix's is our FAVORITE restaurant.  It's in Mobile, AL right on the way into FL.  I really can't explain just how good this place is.  Yummy!!

Pensacola Shoreline

Me and my sweetie playing in God's big swimming pool.  Fred craves the salt water, myself chlorine! LOL

Fred checking out all the green algae.  It was everywhere and people were swimming and playing in it.  GROSS!

The most amazing Seafood Market I've ever been in.  First of all it enormous and I've never seen so many different kinds of fish and people in one place.  You had to pick a # and hand it to this man.  All he did was sit on a chair and "yell" out numbers all day like an auctioneer.  When he "yells" your # it's your turn at the counter!  The other part of the store is a small market of gourmet cheeses, olives, and wines.  If we lived there my husband would shop Joe Patti's at least 3 times a week.  We'd turn into a fish b/c we'd eat so much fish!

These little frogs where a nightly occurrence. They might be small, but they were loud. We never did find out why they kept coming out, but they were everywhere. It reminded me of the 10 plagues. LOL

Leave it to my husband to find history on vacation, but I have to admit this place was neat!! Fort Pickens is a pentagonal historic United States military fort on Santa Rosa Island in the Pensacola, FL area. It is named after American Revolutionary War hero Andrew Pickens. The fort was completed in 1834 and remained in use until 1947. Fort Pickens was the largest of a group of forts designed to fortify Pensacola Harbor.

Hopefully, you can tell by the pictures how much fun we had. I do think it's amusing that no matter where we go my husband can find "history"; it is definitely an Ehler trait. We could be stranded on a deserted island and he'd find out how old the island is, the historical value, its importance, etc... I on the other hand I want to go and totally chill on the beach! It's all about balance.

Happy Vacationing!!
